Becoming SESERIAN

Hello again, So what happened after receiving the offer letter? We were asked to print out the list that told us the things we had to buy, e.g. toiletries, school uniforms (baju kurung only), PVC shoes, 3 sets of baju kurung for prep class and dinner, different types of SESERI official t-shirts, baju kurung for outing, bedsheet and blanket and the list goes on... After the registration and welcome speech by the principal, we got to know the house, class and dorm we were assigned to. And yeah, I was assigned to rumah Brassidium, the green house and got Brassidium 1 as my dorm for the next two years in SESERI! Double-decker beds, rather old mattresses, lockers, shared bathroom, toilets, and kitchenette were the features of the hostel life here. What made life more interesting here? Rules. Rules were everywhere, penetrating every corner of the school compound. No phones, MP3, Maggi Mee, and no slippers when entering the dining hall. Curfew at 11pm, use of laptop...

Why boarding school?

Image
Hello, I am about to share with you the main reason I applied for boarding school. For the PT3 assessment in 2014, apart from the written exams, students would need to sit for the listening and oral tests. Since we were the first batch to sit for the exam, we did not know much about it, not until a few months before the actual exam. No matter how hard I tried, my thoughts broke into pieces before I even said it out loud. The struggle was real. I could not reach the fluency I expected myself to. I came from a national school, so speaking the National language fluently should never be my problem, right? No. I failed myself. After studying for three years at SMK Taman Tasik, I barely spoke a word or two in the Malay la...

Life in a boarding school-SMS Seri Puteri

Hello visitors, I graduated from SMS Seri Puteri in 2016, Kuala Lumpur and was one of the very few non-Malays in my batch. Well, there were less than 20 non-Muslim students in the school if you count every batch of students during my year (the Form 1, Form 4 and Form 5). From what I know, the number has been dwindling and I was informed that there were no non-Muslim students after the batch of 2017. Before becoming a student of SESERI, I was a student at a daily school located in Ampang. I got to apply after completing my Form 3 studies with my PT3 (Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3) results. And you guess it well, I was offered a place! You might be curious about why I applied for a boarding in the first place? Or how on earth did I even get the offer? Or how do I survive being a minority? Or wanting to know more about tips living in a boarding school, specifically SMS Seri Puteri? You stop at the right place. Bookmark it up. Answers shall be revealed soon. In the following blog posts, ...
